Turjak Bees: Young Beekeepers at Turjak Primary School in the 2024/2025 School Year
The Turjak Bees beekeeping club at the Turjak Branch School operates under the auspices of the Turjak Beekeeping Society and with the support of the Slovenian Beekeepers’ Association (ČZS). It is a beekeeping club for children where young, curious minds learn about the wonderful world of beekeeping, learn the basics of beekeeping for children, and discover the importance of bees for nature. The club, also known as the Turjak beekeeping club, is led by a mentor who has an exceptional sense for working with children and encourages them to explore and learn. This year, we will upgrade our activities by including apitherapy for children, where children will learn about the beneficial effects of bee products on health.
The children in the club work under the expert guidance of a mentor who lovingly and devotedly brings beekeeping closer to the children and inspires them to care for hives and bees. In doing so, we contribute to the spread of bee education among young people, who are also known as young beekeepers in Slovenia.
We are delighted to announce that the last school year was extremely successful for our club! With great interest from the children and the support of mentors and parents, we have become one of the largest beekeeping clubs in Slovenia, which further motivates us for continued work and the organization of beekeeping competitions.
At the meetings, children learn how to handle hives, identify bee species, and the basics of beekeeping equipment. In addition, they participate in seasonal tasks in the apiary, which allows them direct contact with these indispensable pollinators. They also develop their creativity – making candles from wax, preparing honey products at home, and participating in various exhibitions.
This year, we will once again include apitherapy for children, where they will learn how honey, propolis, and wax can contribute to better well-being and health, and how these natural ingredients are used in everyday life.
Just like last year, we will also organize a beekeeping competition in the 2024/2025 school year, prepared by the Turjak Beekeeping Society. Young beekeepers will have the opportunity to test their knowledge and skills and connect with peers from other places.
Enthusiasm for bee education among young people is growing, which gives us hope that the love for beekeeping and nature will remain a part of their everyday lives in the future.
Thank you to everyone who supports and encourages young beekeepers!
